Rachel Shankman




Rachel Shankman is senior director of the Memphis office of Facing History and Ourselves. Previously, she was director of the Jewish Student Union at the University of Memphis, the first female president of Beth Sholom Synagogue, regional director of the B’nai B’rith Youth Organization, and a casework associate with Family Service of Memphis. She holds a Bachelor of Science in sociology and social work from the U of M. The daughter of Holocaust survivors, Rachel was born in a displaced persons camp in Germany. She is married to Stephen Shankman, the federal public defender for West Tennessee. They have two children and three grandchildren.
