Bio

Karen Pulfer Focht has been a photojournalist at The Commercial Appeal since 1988. She has received many accolades, including national first-place awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, and the Casey Foundation, for her groundbreaking series on infant mortality in Memphis. Karen considers herself a storyteller who happens to use a camera. She grew up in Glenview, Ill., and studied photography at Chicago's Columbia College. Before Memphis, Karen worked at The Post-Tribune, where she was named Indiana Photographer of the Year. Though she's traveled all of the world for the CA, she loves community-changing journalism the best. She is chief videographer for "Expressions of Faith." She is married and has three children.
