Sacrificial giving

The Christian Methodist Episcopal Church views tithing as a spiritual discipline and a personal responsibility to God and the church community. I believe the decline in tithing is a reflection both of the economy and of the church. The sour economic state of many, if not most, church members has created a feeling that no one else cares so one must look out for oneself. At the same time the spread of a “prosperity gospel” has helped to create a church environment that promotes personal gratification rather than sacrifice. The church must continue to stress the need for faithful stewardship even in the face of difficult times.
