Rev. Jason L. Turner preached on the topic “When Grace is Enough” Sunday morning at Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church. It went well.
After the service, Turner received 95 percent of the congregation’s vote to become the church’s new senior pastor.
Turner, a Nashville native, is the 32-year-old pastor of Community Baptist Church in New Haven, Conn. His father, Rev. James Turner Sr., is pastor of New Hope Baptist Church in Nashville.
Turner will succeed Dr. Frank Thomas, who has spent the past 32 years of his life working as a pastor. Thomas, 57, MBCC’s pastor since 1999, stepped down last month to new institute for African-American studies at Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis.
Turner, pastor of Community Baptist Church since 2006, also serves as chaplain of the New Haven Fire Department and as board chairman for that city’s housing authority.
He has a bachelor’s degree from Fisk University and a Master of Divinity degree from Yale Unviversity. He attends Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School in Rochester, N.Y., and anticipates a Doctor of Ministry in May 2014.
He is married to the former Bridgett Nicole Bush, 29, a Fisk University graduate and New York native. The Turners are expecting their first child this month.
