Our pain, God’s sorrow

December 22, 2012 in Featured Question of the Week, Newtown and Memphis, Question of the Week, Spotlight Answers by Larry Lloyd

Every day, it seems, we are confronted with unspeakable acts of violence. Yet, as people of faith, we uphold God’s love, mercy and justice. Contradiction? Wishful thinking? We are all still unbelievably broken hearted for those in Newtown who died at the hands of evil and grieve for the parents, grandparents, and families of those who were slain.  But, we recognize that God Himself enters right into the middle of their pain and grief. After all, His Son was murdered, too. Mary grieved for Jesus at Calvary’s cross just like so many parents are grieving today in Newtown. God not only understands, He takes on our pain and sorrow.
