Calvary’s bell will toll for Newtown victims

Downtown’s Calvary Episcopal Church will toll its bell 28 times at 8:30 Friday morning, once for each person who was killed during last week’s school shooting rampage in Newtown, Conn.
Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has proclaimed Friday a day of mourning in his state and asked Connecticut residents to toll bells and observe a moment of silence at 9:30 a.m. (EST).
“We support this remembrance as both a tribute to their memories and as a reminder to all of us that we have a responsibility to do what we can to prevent such a tragedy from ever happening again,” said Rev. Christopher D. Girata, Calvary’s rector.
