The Light of God

Which Memphis-area house of worship do you find most beautiful, spiritual, sacred? And why?

Because stained glass windows have always had a spiritual effect on me, I cast my “vote” for St. Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral on Poplar where for decades I was honored with an invitation to participate in the annual Feast of Lights service. Someone wrote that stained glass windows let God’s light shine through to the worshipping congregation. I find this to be true especially when those windows depict scenes from the Life of Our Lord and His Saints. But there is another reason I choose the Episcopal Cathedral and that is the name – St. Mary’s. The Greek Orthodox Church has always been madly in love with this woman – the Theotokos – who, although one of us, her son became our Sun of Righteousness.
