Restoring statesmanship
November 2, 2012 in Advice for after the election, Featured Question of the Week, Question of the Week by Randolph Meade Walker
If you were addressing the nation on Wednesday, Nov. 7, the DAY AFTER the election, what would you say? What advice would you offer to your fellow Americans about the next four years?
As Americans we need to be respectful of our leadership, even if we have a different point of view. No president should have to endure rude, ill mannered, and crude remarks and behavior. The disrespect shown to President Obama over the last four years simply is unacceptable. For a Congressman to ignorantly yell out to the Chief Executive in a formal gathering of Congress, “You lie!” is inexcusable. One of the traditional trademarks of the United States has been genteel behavior. We would do well to demonstrate polite and courteous behavior. Statesmanship needs to be recovered.
