Sexual orientation and civil rights

On Tuesday, the Memphis City Council will hear the final reading of a nondiscrimination ordinance that would ban discrimination in city employment because of age, ethnicity, national origin and disability.
The ordinance is expected to be amended to include sexual orientation and gender identity.
Nashville and Knoxville councils have approved similar ordinances. FedEx, AutoZone and International Paper have similar employment protections.
What should Memphis City Council do? Is this an employment issue, a civil rights issue or a faith issue?
