Friends of the Poor Walk/Run slated for Sept. 29 at CBHS

September 21, 2012 in Faith Matters by David Waters

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul will hold its 5th annual Friends of the Poor Walk/Run on Saturday, Sept. 29 at Christian Brothers High School.

Registration opens at 9 a.m. and the walk begins at 10 a.m.  There will be live music, food, fun and free T-shirts.

All donations are used to provide meals at the St Vincent de Paul Food Mission in Midtown.  The Food Mission serves lunch to 150 to 225 people every day, or about 64,000 meals each year. Tom Wilkinson, the head of this year’s walk, said the mission can serve two meals with each dollar raised.

Next year, the Food Mission will be moving to renovated space at 1306 Monroe, site of the former Madison Heights United Methodist Church.

To register for the walk, visit www.svdpmemphis.org. The Society is requesting that each walker raise at least $20, or $50 for a family of walkers.
