Nothing more Christian than caring for the poor

What are your views of the food-stamp program and the proposed cuts to it?

Our nation is living in sin. Nothing in all of scripture is more clear and unequivocal than caring for the poor in our midst, and when our legislators — many of whom are Christian! — begin to cut benefits to the poor while at the same time providing benefits to the wealthiest among us, they violate the very essence of the faith. To say that is not to engage in “class warfare.” It is to follow the one who “became poor for our sake.” To care for the poor is to care for Christ himself: “I was hungry and you gave me food.”
