Americans have more opportunities for violence
August 10, 2012 in Question of the Week, Spotlight Answers, Why is America experiencing so many mass shootings? What should we be doing about it? by David Hall
The tragic mass shooting at the Sikh temple in Wisconsin, coming just a few days after the tragic mass shooting at the theater in Colorado, continues a deeply disturbing American trend.
Since 1976, the U.S. has averaged 20 mass shootings a year – including 30 in 2003.
Why is America such a violent place? Why are we experiencing so many mass shootings? Is this sort of tragedy embedded in our DNA? What should we be doing about it?
America is really no more violent than any other part of the world. Killing in America is an opportunity for sick persons encouraged by easy access to guns. Having gun(s) is a boundless political right. Consider that tragic mass shootings are the results of one insane individual. In other parts of the world mass killing are usually political or social/ political with a history of race hatred carried out by entire groups.
