Who/what is an American? What does America mean to you and your faith?

Being an American means a lot of things. Questions of legal citizenship are certainly important but they don’t cover the whole picture. Put another way: America is more than a legal construct. Millions of undocumented people are living very American lives – they study, work, pray, raise families, contribute to our economy and to other facets of our culture. Thinking through what it means to be American should include an open conversation about our American lives, about the the ways in which our national tapestry (work, prayer, recreation, food, style, music, love, family celebrations) is enriched by all the people who have woven themselves into the picture in so many beautiful ways.
