Americans are my friends and neighbors

Who/what is an American? What does America mean to you and your faith?

I love America and I am proud to be an American. I also love Memphis and being a Memphian. A Memphian is someone who is my neighbor; who lives near me, who works beside me, whose children I see going to school, who worships next to me on Sunday morning, who complains about the heat and who watches the sun set over the Mississippi day after day. I know there are legal definitions of being an American but for me the parallel of being a Memphian works for being an American.

Seeing myself as an American impacts my faith because matters of home, the earth, caring for the place my family and friends live is intimately tied to how I come to understand God’ love for me.
